Bunty Aur Babli 2: All you need to know about Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan's characters

The upcoming crime comedy will have Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan coming together on screen after more than a decade. They will be seen playing the infamous con artists in Bunty Aur Babli 2, a sequel to the hit 2005 film which starred Rani and Abhishek Bachchan as Babli and Bunty respectively. 

In the sequel, while Babli is seen as a housewife who misses taking the centre stage, Bunty is seen as a retired conman who seems to miss planning and executing robberies that had the entire country talking about them. The actors opened up about their characters in the film recently with Filmfare. 

Rani Mukerji said her character Vimmy is a bored housewife in a small town and how she becomes the fashion queen of Fursatgunj. "She knows she is the OG Babli, a smart woman who pulled off incredible cons. Though she is happy in her marriage, she craves being the centre of attention," she said while adding that Vimmy then decides to pursue fashion. "Her fashion choices are loud, colourful and happy because that’s what her personality is and I must say she relishes the fact that people in Fursatgunj look up to her," she told the portal. 

On the other hand, Saif plays the role of Rakesh aka Bunty. Talking about his character, the Bhoot Police actor said Rakesh too misses being the centre of attention. "Not a day goes by without Rakesh missing the thrill he felt when he was the legendary conman Bunty. Though he has kept his identity a secret and enjoys his marriage with Vimmy, he misses the action, misses strategising for cons that became the talk of the nation," he said. And keeping this big secret has cost him his health. The actor had to put on some weight and also lose it immediately due to his back to back shooting schedule. He further said, "Now, when I look back, I’m glad I went through the process because Rakesh aka Bunty looks believable."

The film also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari Wagh and Pankaj Tripathi. Siddhant and Sharvari will be seen as modern-day digital con artists who replace the original duo as Bunty and Babli, while Pankaj Tripathi plays the role of the police inspector Jatayu Singh. The Varun V. Sharma directorial is backed by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films and is set to release on November 19.
