Seo Dongju finds himself in the middle of a grand scheme that slowly but surely promises he would be dragged out of service in the cruellest way possible. Will he give up or seek revenge?
True to its theme, Buried Hearts begins in the darkest way possible. Like one can expect, the series is high on cinematic moments even if it just commences.
And just when your heart skips a beat thinking the worst, the reality of it all is revealed through a flashback. The true power in a Korean house - one that comes from a man sitting in his household pretending to be the perfect husband but pulling the strings through his men - is evident.
Park Hyung-sik speaks with his eyes during his entry to the series, and he takes his time in building up for what is to come - him in action, warning not to mess with him. He has clearly grown from Strong Girl Bong-soon, in terms of both action and threatening people.
Lee Hae-young proves his worth in the role of Heo Il-do. His expression change says a lot, and you know there are too many buried secrets.
As expected of him, Huh Joon-ho's Yeom Jang-seon is in utmost power this time, and there's a constant struggle in trying to steal that kind of power. It builds the very foundation of Buried Hearts. Despite taking its own sweet time to develop, the minute the story takes a turn is something you cannot miss.
Hyung-sik's romance-drama with a painting at the centre of it continues, and it gives you a strong deja vu but is yet to come at par with the OG couple. Part reason for this is that Seo Dong-ju's focus here is Daesang over romance (even if he is in a serious relationship with his girl and thinks about marrying her). Nonetheless, we get their intimate moments, including him being shirtless and his deadly smile adding to the mix.
Just when you least expect it (but should), things take a drastic turn in Seon Dongju's life. It is this moment that sets the perfect plot for revenge, but of course, we're yet to see that side of Hyung-sik unleash in full power.
Buried Hearts has just begun and appears promising but for the beginning, it is a slow burner with moments that are pure cinematic trademark moments that come with a talent like Park Hyung-sik.
