Anees Bazmee’s directorial Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was hailed as a film to break the ‘dry spell’ Bollywood found itself in when it came to box office earnings. The horror comedy witnessed a stellar theatrical run, minting well over Rs 200 crores at the box office. Now it seems that the Kartik Aaryan starrer film might also get remakes in Tamil and Telugu as well.
According to a report in Pinkvilla, several producers were eyeing to remake the Hindi film in Tamil and Telugu, given the popularity of the horror comedy genre among South Indian audiences. Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani, who bankrolled Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, were still deciding on whether to give up the film’s rights or go in for a co-production with a South Indian banner for the remake.
A source told the portal that the producers were undecided on who to sell the film’s rights to, and discussions about the remake were still going on. The source added that one of the South Indian producers wanted Bazmee to direct the film’s Telugu remake along with a ‘top name’ so that the ‘flavour’ of the original would be maintained.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a standalone sequel to 2007’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which starred Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. The 2007 film was the Hindi remake of Fazil’s Malayalam directorial Manichitrathazhu(1993). Manichitrathazhu was also remade in Kannada, Tamil and Bengali as Apthamitra, Chandramukhi and Rajmohol.
Meanwhile, Bazmee is currently working on the sequel to No Entry, which will see Salman Khan, Fardeen Khan and Anil Kapoor reprise their roles from the original film. A report in ETimes had stated that the upcoming sequel would feature almost ten leading ladies as well. The director is also reportedly working on a film with Varun Dhawan, which would be a comedy. Bazmee had also recently spoke of his wish to collaborate with Shahid Kapoor in the near future too.
