After his Hoichoi crime thriller series Murder In The Hills, Anjan Dutt is gearing for another murder mystery for the same platform. As per reports, his next one is related to the previously released crime drama series. While Murder In The Hills pans out in picturesque Darjeeling, North Bengal, the next chapter will explore the alleys and sea beaches in Puri. While there has been no announcement yet, the director has started shooting already.
Murder In The Hills features Arjun Chakraborty, Sandipta Sen, Anindita Bose, Suprobhat Das, Sujan Mukhopadhyay, Rupankar Bagchi and others. The new series will also have Arjun in a key role. Along with several others from the previous show, Ananya Chatterjee, Paayel Sarkar and television actress Trina Saha will also be seen in important characters.
The first season was dropped in July last year. In the series, which features the nooks and corners of Darjeeling is portrayed, delves into the murder of Tony, a flamboyant character at his birthday celebration party. Amitabha (Arjun), a journalist and Sheela’s (Anindita) boyfriend, sees the death that is initially assumed to be a cardiac arrest and starts gathering clues. In an Agatha Christie-like set up, the whodunit ends with high-octane social drama.
Anjan’s love for whodunits is not new. Soon after the Hoichoi series, he also created another original detective character Subrata Shorma and penned his first novel, Danny Detective Inc. BNy the author’s admission, the character is a loner, alcoholic and bohemian. He has a detective agency, Danny Detective INC, which was named after his boss who is murdered. Last year, Anjan directed a detective thriller series for OTT platform KLIKK based on his novel. In the series, while Suprabhat plays the character of the detective, Anjan plays Danny, his boss.
Earlier, Anjan has directed a number of Byomkesh Bakshi thrillers in which Abir Chatterjee and Jisshu U Sengupta play the detective. After Byomkesh O Agniban in 2017, the directors decided not to direct Byomkesh any further. Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s Byomkesh Bakshi has so far been a popular and successful detective franchise in Bengali films. Along with Anjan Dutta, there are other filmmakers directed Byomkesh on the big screen and OTT platforms. Arindam Sil’s next, Byomkesh Hatyamancha, will go on the floors on June 1. Meanwhile, Hoichoi has seven series of Byomkesh in which Anirban Bhattacharya plays the detective.
