Buzz: Deepika Padukone to play Shah Rukh Khan’s wife in Jawan? Here’s what we know

Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming collaboration with Atlee, titled Jawan, has been the talk of the town for quite a while now. The film not marks the Bollywood debuts of both director Atlee and actress Nayanthara, and will reportedly see SRK take on a dual role. Reports have also started to surface that Deepika Padukone will also make an appearance in the film in a cameo role, and that she will essay the role of SRK’s wife. And that’s not all, it seems that Rana Daggubati has also come on board for the action entertainer as well.

According to a report in PeepingMoon, Padukone will play a ‘powerful’ character in the film, in a short yet important role. The report states that the actress will play Khan’s wife in the film and will be featured in flashback sequences. The role is said to be a ‘key differentiator’ to the film’s plot. Khan will reportedly play a double role in the film, in the roles of a father as well as a son. Padukone will be paired opposite Khan’s father character, a source told the portal.

The source added that Daggubati too has come on board for the film in an extended cameo. Although details regarding his character has not been revealed, Daggubati will reportedly play an antagonist in the film. Both Padukone and Daggubati are expected to start filming for their roles in the next shoot schedule of the film.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was reportedly initially offered the role of Padukone’s character in Jawan, but the former had said no to the part. Bachchan reportedly refused the offer as she wanted to have a more ‘full fledged role’ opposite Khan, with whom the actress has collaborated with previously in films such as Devdas,

Jawan is slated for release on June 2, 2023, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
