The postponement of high-profile projects like SS Rajamouli's historical fiction drama, RRR, with Jr NTR, Ram Charan besides Prabhas, Pooja Hegde's epic romance Radhe Shyam, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for a flurry of small films in Tamil and Telugu during the Sankranthi festival season. As many as six Telugu films released in the first two weeks of 2022 after RRR, Radhe Shyam decided to skip their originally announced dates owing to rising Omicron cases. Now, the makers of both the films are said to be looking at release date alternatives in the next few months.

It was also widely reported that ZEE5 had come up with a near Rs 400 crore offer to release Radhe Shyam directly on OTT using the pay per view model, but the producers UV Productions are only keen in releasing the film for the big screen. If all goes well, Radhe Shyam will be hitting the theatres in the later half of March 2022. Provided the COVID-19 situation in the world normalises, third weekend of March (March 17/18) will be the time when the ambitious period romance will release across multiple languages, trade experts expect.

While RRR is considering several release date options, it is believed that the final weekend of April is a tentative time when the independence-themed drama is certain to release across the globe. April 28 or April 29, coinciding with Eid, is the release date that's doing the rounds across social media and news portals. Already, three big movies have confirmed their release in April, including Chiranjeevi's Acharya (on April 1), Vijay's Beast and the Yash starrer KGF 2 (on April 14). DVV Entertainments feels that the Eid release date would turn out best for them in drawing crowds to theatres.

Interestingly, the OTT rights of both the films are with ZEE5, while Netflix is the streaming partner for RRR's Hindi version alone.
