Byri OTT release date: Director John Glady's Tamil film Byri is all set for its OTT release debut. The critically acclaimed movie that received raving reviews from audiences can soon be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. Although the release date has yet to be announced, we know that Byri will be available to stream on the OTT giant very soon.
What is Byri all about?
Based on pigeon racing and set in the region of Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu, Byri is about the tradition behind the sport that has been played for generations. The movie is about Rajalingam (Syed Majeed), whose dream is to participate in and win the pigeon race. Suyambu (Vinu Lawrence) is a well-known local figure who also participates in the pigeon race. They dream of joining a pigeon club.
However, conflicts arise when Rajalingam makes public Suyambu's illegal practices in the race. This leads to complications in Rajalingam's life. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Byri takes inspiration from earlier Tamil rural sports drama films such as Vetri Maaran's Aadukalam and Malayalam films like Angamaly Diaries. The subject of the movie has been presented in a raw and realistic manner. Although the film was criticised for being too violent, it was engaging. Byri's screenplay is from John Glady’s short film of the same name.
Byri was a failure at the box office, despite critical acclaim
Despite receiving positive reviews from viewers, Byri failed to do well at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 3 crore, it was able to make less than Rs 1 crore in theatres. With the OTT premiere on the way, the movie is expected to reach a wider audience.
Byri is written and directed by John Glady, who also stars in it. The other cast members include Syed Majeed, Meghana Ellen and Viji Sekar.
