Amazon Prime Video’s Cinderella marks the acting debut of singer-songwriter Camila Cabello. The Amazon Original movie is a modern-day take on the fairytale, which also stars Pierce Brosnan, Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver and Nicholas Galitzine.

The acting debutant, recently shared that foraying into acting was nerve-wracking for her and also said in a statement, “I have been performing for a long time but playing such an iconic character was on another level. In this story, she is realizing what she really wants from her life, and it’s not a prince. She wants a career and she is being told that’s impossible. I love that she dares to be different.”

The singer and now actor revealed that director Kay Cannon guided her and helped her believe in her ability to tackle the central role throughout the shoot of the film. She also said, “I look up to Kay so much.”

Camila further mentioned in the statement that the part of the joy of starring in the film was the opportunity to offer an inspirational story of female empowerment to Latino girls and women. She also said that she’s proud to represent her community but she wouldn’t be here without the amazing work of the women who came before her like Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek and Jennifer Lopez. “Like our Cinderella, they are trailblazers not bound by societal and cultural boundaries, just following their truth,” she added.

Apart from direction, Cannon has also penned the movie that has been produced by Leo Pearlman, James Corden, Jonathan Kadin and Shannon McIntosh. The upcoming feature film also stars Billy Porter, who will be seen as the famous fairy Godmother of Camila’s Cinderella. Cinderella is set to globally premiere on the OTT giant on September 3.
