Candy Cane Lane is arriving early in the Christmas season to sweeten the wait without invoking the cardinal cavities. The festive family flick is directed by Reginald Hudlin, who had previously worked with the film’s protagonist Eddie Murphy on Boomerang (1992). The film is about a man who makes a deal with a mischievous elf for festive gains, and now must hurry against all odds to face the consequences and try and save Christmas.

Release date, OTT platform, and Cast of Candy Cane Lane

Being an Amazon original, the film will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime, December 1, 2023, onwards. It features a starry cast with Eddie Murphy as protagonist Chris Carver, Tracee Ellis Ross as Carol Carver, Jillian Bell as Pepper, as well as Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Robin Thede, Nick Offerman, Madison Thomas, Genneya Walton, Riki Lindhome, D.D. Young Fly, Lombardo Boyar, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Dannielle Pinnock, and Timothy Simons.

Plot of Candy Cane Lane

The film’s official plot synopsis says, “Eddie Murphy stars in this holiday comedy adventure about a man on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. After Chris (Eddie Murphy) inadvertently makes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) to better his chances of winning, she casts a magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life and wreaks havoc on the whole town.”

Now, the entire Carver family of father Chris, wife Carol, and their three children must race against time to end Pepper’s spell, battle sneaky magical monsters, and save Christmas for the entire town, as well as themselves. The script, penned by Kelly Younger, was actually inspired by his own childhood memories of the real Candy Cane Lane in El Segundo, California.

Candy Cane Lane Trailer and more

The trailer of the film was dropped in October this year and in an erstwhile interview with People magazine, director Reginald Hudlin asserted, “I can confidently say you’ve never seen a holiday movie like this! We have jump scares, car chases, and kung-fu fighting, plus all the holiday feels.” A Christmassy film that also promises a hint of spice, Candy Cane Lane might just set a new festive film trend if it manages to deliver what it has assured.
