Director Abhay Pannu wrapped up the first season of Rocket Boys on an intriguing note, with Jim Sarbh's character Homi Bhabha on the verge of a game-changing invention. While the first season illustrated how Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai improved India's scientific position under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, it is understood that the second season will feature former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a larger role as she assumes command.

Charu Shankar was cast as India's Iron Lady in the first season by Kavish Sinha, who oversaw the SonyLIV casting process. Talking about the same, he told Mid-Day that in the second season, a number of luminaries, including cabinet members and prime ministers, come into play. Indira Gandhi will be featured prominently in the forthcoming season. Sinha explained that Pannu came prepared with a full schedule for the entire series, including character arcs.

He also mentions that both parts were shot at the same time, saying that because the two seasons were shot concurrently, they required actors who could commit for a long time. Sinha added that the 16 episodes were not shot in order, but rather according to the storyline and location. 

He also mentions that the second season is currently in post-production.

According to the creator, Nikkhil Advani, the first season will include eight episodes, while the second season will reveal what Sarabhai was to Bhabha and what APJ Abdul Kalam became to Sarabhai. 

According to the filmmaker, as the show develops, the baton is transferred in a sense, and the second season will focus on more rocket launches and Kalam.

The first season of Rocket Boys premiered earlier this month and is touted to be one of the best Indian original series of all time. Fans can't stop talking about the show and the incredible performances by the ensemble cast.
