Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie’s big screen debut as the First Avenger, released in theatres in February this year and despite overwhelmingly negative reviews for the film, it managed to become the fourth highest grossing film of 2025, to date, amassing over 400 million USD worldwide. The film, like most Marvel movies, was set to head to Disney+ after its theatrical run, and now the date’s been announced.

In the film, which is set a few months after Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford of Indiana Jones and Blade Runner 2049 fame) is elected as US President, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez)—the new Captain America and Falcon—are sent on a mission to intercept stolen classified items from a mercenary group. Their mission is complicated not only because of the group’s leader, Sidewinder, but also because both do not have superhuman abilities unlike the erstwhile Cap, Steve Rogers.

Although Captain America Brave New World’s reviews are far from exciting, with critics noting that the complex narrative and pacing issues were major dampeners, the performances were lauded. Tired and uninspired was how the film was described, although Mackie’s Capain America and Ford’s President Wilson/Red Hulk received praise.
Captain America: Brave New World comes after Mackie’s Sam Wilson officially took on the mantle at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, making him the first on-screen Black Captain America. The film’s post-credit scene is a lead-in into the next phase of the Marvel Universe with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, so don’t forget to watch that.
