Producer Nate Moore confirmed that a Captain America traditionally leads the Avengers, hinting at Wilson’s role in uniting a new team to confront an emerging threat.

“There is certainly more story to be told for Captain America,” Moore shared with Empire Online. “Sam might find that, moving forward, he’s jumping out of the frying pan and into the proverbial fire. I think Avengers teams are best when they are led by a Captain America. This movie gives us a little bit of space to explore: Where are the Avengers? What does it mean to have Avengers? And is Sam the right guy to lead them?”

The film’s logline reads: “Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident after meeting with President Thaddeus Ross. He must soon uncover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind brings the entire world to its knees.”
