Late actor and politician Vijayakanth’s birthday falls on Monday (August 25). A much-respected actor, whose filmography mostly contains action dramas, Vijayakanth is one the iconic stars of Tamil cinema. He had given many hits through his career and here are some of his must-watches.

Captain Prabhakaran- OTTplay Premium

Captain Prabhakaran is an action film which released in 1991 and led by Vijayakanth who collaborated with director RK Selvamani. It marked the actor's 100th film and enjoyed a good re-release recently in theatres. Captain Prabhakaran is about a police man who is assigned to capture a sandalwood smuggler, a character fashioned after real-life smuggler Veerappan. The film stars MN Nambiar, Sarathkumar, Livingston, Rupini, Ramya Krishnan and Mansoor Ali Khan among others.

Ramana- OTTplay Premium

Ramana is a 2002 action drama revolving around a vigilante who after a personal tragedy begins to weed out corruption from government office using his former students who now work in different departments. Ramana is helmed by AR Murugadoss and went on to become a cult classic film and one of the hailed vigilante stories of Tamil cinema. With Simran appearing in a cameo role, Ramana also stars Ashima Bhalla, Yogi Sethu, Vijayan and others.

Pulan Visaranai- OTTplay Premium

Pulan Visaranai is a 1990 Tamil action thriller featuring Vijayakanth in the lead role, who gave a chance to then debutant director RK Selvamani. With Vijayakanth playing his iconic character Honest Raj, a policeman, the film also stars Sarathkumar, Rupini, Anandraj, Radha Ravi, MN Nambiar and others. It revolves around Honest Raj who is suspended from work due to political pressures, as he begins to probe into a high-profile case. A sequel, Pulan Visaranai 2, was released in 2015 with the same director and different cast.

Oomai Vizhigal- OTTplay Premium

Oomai Vizhigal is a yet another Tamil film which featured Vijayakanth as a cop. A crime thriller helmed by R Aravindraj, it features Arun Pandian, Karthik, Chandrasekhar and Jaishankar among others. It is about a killer who targets women and a policeman who goes after to nab him.

Chinna Gounder- Prime Video

Chinna Gounder is an iconic film in Vijayakanth's career and was directed by RV Udhayakumar. It featured Vijayakanth in the titular role, a village head who is honest and admired for his noble intentions. But when he falls prey to a scheme, his character gets marred among the villagers. Sukanya plays the female lead in the film which includes actors Manorama, Salim Ghouse, Sathyapriya, Goundamani, Senthil and Vadivelu.
