Of all the things to come out of 2016’s demonetisation, Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming film Cash seems to be the quirkiest. The upcoming film tells the tale of a young man who sees an opportunity in the government’s 2016 demonitisation fiasco.
The trailer opens with a scene bound to stir every Indian with annoyance and relatability- the government’s announcement of demonetisation of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes. But where most Indians saw inconvenience, Armaan Gulati (Anmol Parashar) saw an opportunity.
Despite leaving two unsuccessful businesses in his wake, nothing can stop the young man from dreaming of becoming ‘India’s Elon Musk’.
Inspired by his friend, the aspiring businessman decides to open up a ‘startup’ to convert the massive amounts of black money to white, with the aid of a charismatic young woman and his reluctant friend.
Hot on the black money trail is a no nonsense policeman. The group also find themselves in danger of courting the wrath of a bigwig whose money they promise to handle, who does not take kindly to people who displease them.
Cash also stars Smriti Kaira, Kavin Dave, Swanand Kirkire and Gulshan Grover. Vishesh Bhatt produces the film.
Bhatt had revealed in a press release that he wanted to present the drama that demonetisation followed through a unique perspective, one that involved young Indian entrepreneurs.
Director Rishabh Seth called the film “fun and quirky” rife with both comedy and suspense. Seth also talked about how the film juxtaposed the mindsets of two groups of people during the demonisation period- one who saw it as an opportunity and the other who viewed it as a threat to their illegal hoardings.
Cash will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on November 19.
