It has been quite some time since Catherine Tresa appeared on the big screen. After nearly two years, she is making a comeback with an exciting project titled Phani. What makes Phani special is that it is directed by veteran filmmaker VN Aditya, known for classics like Manasantha Nuvve and Nenunnanu, starring Nagarjuna.
VN Aditya is returning to the director’s chair with this film and is also co-producing it alongside his sister, Dr. Meenakshi. The film was recently launched with much fanfare, and its motion poster was unveiled by legendary director K. Raghavendra Rao.
Phani is set against a unique backdrop, featuring elements of horror and snake mythology, a genre that is rarely explored in modern cinema. Speaking about the project, Catherine Tresa shared her excitement about taking on such an unconventional role. "Though I am scared of snakes, the makers were kind enough to use VFX for the snake sequences," she revealed.
Apart from Catherine in the lead role, the film boasts a strong supporting cast, including the versatile actors Tanikella Bharani and Mahesh Sriram in key roles. Phani is being made as a pan-Indian project, with plans for release in Hindi and all major South Indian languages. Another interesting aspect of the film is that its producer, Dr. Meenakshi, has also composed the music.

Originally planned as a small-scale project, Phani has now evolved into a major film, with the makers eyeing a grand release. VN Aditya praised Catherine’s dedication, revealing that she actively participated in workshops to better understand her character. Given VN Aditya’s past track record of delivering hits, there is considerable buzz around his return to filmmaking.
For Catherine, this film presents a significant opportunity to showcase her acting range in a role unlike any she has played before. The story has been penned by Padmavathi Malladi, and the film is being edited by Junaid. More updates about Phani are expected to be revealed soon.
