Mammootty left fans excited when he announced that he would be reprising his iconic role as Sethurama Iyer in the fifth instalment of the CBI film series. The megastar has kickstarted the shoot for the film, and on Saturday, he took to his social media pages and 'leaked' a still. In the photo, Mammootty is seen in his trademark pose from the film series while standing with his hands behind him.

While sharing the new still, the Malayalam star captioned it as "Official Leak! #CBI5 #untitled."

In addition to Mammootty, the film will feature Mukesh, Saikumar, Renji Panicker, and Ramesh Pisharody in key roles. It is also said that Jagathy Sreekumar will be making his grand comeback on the big screen with this film. He will be reprising his role as SI Vikram in the fifth part as well. Sethurama Iyer will be investigating a series of murders known as the Basket Killings in the film.

Meanwhile, as per reports, the writer of CBI 5, SN Swamy, recently confirmed that Mammootty is not playing an aged Sethurama Iyer in the film. As per the veteran writer, fans of the megastar and the CBI series may be disappointed if the character in the fifth instalment is portrayed as an aged and retired officer.

The first part of the CBI series came out in 1988 and titled Oru CBI Diary Kurippu. Thereon, the other parts came about, which made the franchise a favourite among the masses. These include Jagratha (1989), Sethurama Iyer CBI (2004), and Nerariyan CBI (2005).

The fifth instalment is coming after more than 15 years, much to the excitement of the fans.

The release date of CBI 5 is yet to be announced, but it's likely to happen later this year. The makers have also not decided on the title of the much-anticipated film.
