Fans have been waiting for over 17 years to see Mammootty return as the iconic Sethurama Iyer and the wait ends soon. The makers of CBI 5 - The Brain have released the film’s official teaser.
The trailer starts off at a police station and has Mammootty’s voice in the background talking about a file related to the Gandhi family. He is then heard talking about the deaths of Sanjay Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and trying to find if all the three cases have a common element.
The short teaser packs a punch, and we hear the iconic background music from the CBI movies, but having gotten a modern reboot. The music by Jakes Bejoy stands out and paves way for a great shot of Mammootty as Sethurama Iyer.
The movie, which will mark the return of the franchise after 17 years, is written and directed by SN Swamy and K Madhu respectively. Swamy and Madhu have also written and directed the previous four films in the fan-favourite franchise.
The first film, Oru CBI Diary Kurippu was released in 1988, which means the franchise turned 34 years old this year. Nerariyan CBI was the last film from the CBI franchise, and it came out in 2005.
Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar also reprise their roles from the previous films in CBI 5. Jagathy’s return as Vikram also marks his return to acting after he was left paralysed following a car accident that happened in 2012.
Apart from the returning actors, Soubin Shahir, Ramesh Pisharody, Kaniha, Asha Sharath, Renji Panicker, Sai Kumar, Malavika Menon and Dileesh Pothan will be seen in the movie. The makers have not announced an official release date for the movie yet.
Oru CBI Diary Kurippu and Nerariyan CBI are available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar while Jagratha and Sethurama Iyer CBI are available on EROS Now.
