The milestone 10th edition of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) is heading into its final segment. Over three weeks, 8 teams split into 2 groups of 4 each, played 16 matches, at the end of which 4 teams with the highest points and run rates advanced to the next stage. The stage of four in CCL, though, does not follow a straight-forward 2 semi-final format. Instead, there are three matches before the finale and this is how it will play out.

At the moment, the top four teams are the Karnataka Bulldozers, Bengal Tigers, Mumbai Heroes and Chennai Rhinos. In the first qualifier on March 15, the Karnataka Bulldozers will play the Bengal Tigers. On March 16, the first match is an eliminator between the Mumbai Heroes and Chennai Rhinos. Now, this is where it gets interesting. The losing team of the first qualifier gets another shot at the finale in the second qualifier, where the team will play the winner of the eliminator.

This is going to be hard on the team that wins the eliminator, as they will have to play the second qualifier immediately thereafter on March 16. The winners of Qualifier 1 and 2 will then meet on March 17 for the finale. All the matches will be held at the Green Field Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

This season of the Celebrity Cricket League has seen some intense cricketing action, fantastic batting, bowling and some spectacular action on the field as well. The biggest upset of the tournament was that last year’s defending champion’s Telugu Warriors were eliminated despite three wins and 6 points, because of a weaker net run rate, while the 2023 runner-up, Bhojpuri Dabanggs was eliminated after losing all four of their group stage matches.

Vishnuvardhan Induri, the founder of the League has been batting for a team from the north to win this edition of the tournament, with his personal favourite being the Bengal Tigers. His prediction may just come true, because Jisshu Senguptha’s team has made it to the top 4 with three scintillating victories.
