CCL 2024: Teams 3 and 4 on the points table, Mumbai Heroes and Chennai Rhinos are fairly evenly poised in terms of previous encounters, with the Rhinos having a 3-2 advantage

On March 16, the Chennai Rhinos will take on the Mumbai Heroes in the Eliminator match of CCL 2024. The winner of this match moves to the second Qualifier, which takes place on the same day, against the loser of Qualifier 1, while the loser will be eliminated from the tournament. This will be a hard-fought battle, with both teams vying for that Qualifier spot and a second chance at making it to the finale on March 17.
It will be a busy day for the Chennai Rhinos or the Mumbai Heroes, depending on who wins their encounter. Unlike Qualifier 1, in which the Karnataka Bulldozers play the Bengal Tigers, having beaten the latter 7 times earlier, including in this season, the Chennai Rhinos and the Mumbai Heroes are more evenly placed. Both teams have been playing the Celebrity Cricket League since its inception in 2011, with the Chennai Rhinos missing out in 2019, the year that the Mumbai Heroes were adjudged champions based on net run-rate, after the semis and final were washed out owing to rain.
The Chennai Rhinos are two-time champions, having won the first two editions of the tournament, but since then, they’ve only made it to group stage, except in 2015, when they lost to the Telugu Warriors in the final. Against the Mumbai Heroes, the Chennai Rhinos have played 6 times, of which, one match was abandoned, two went the Heroes’ way, while the Rhinos won three encounters (2014, 2015 and 2023). In the tournaments of 2016 and 2017, the match schedule did not pit them against each other.
The Mumbai Heroes vs Chennai Rhinos is at 2 pm on March 16 and will be held at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The play-offs and finale were earlier slated to be held in Vishakhapatnam, but in a last-minute change, the organizers shifted all the matches to the Kerala capital. The winner of this match will head to Qualifier 2 at 6.30 pm to face the loser of Qualifier 1.
JioCinema, Doordarshan and Sony Ten 5 are the official telecast partners, along with Star Network, which is providing regional coverage. The finale on March 17 is at 6.30 pm.
