And just like that, the 11th Season of the Celebrity Cricket League is all set to come to an end. Next weekend, on March 1 and 2, the action moves to Mysuru for the first time ever, with the top 4 teams battling it out in the semi-finals on Saturday, followed by the final on Sunday. The venue for the semis and final was announced only a few days ago, with Karnataka Bulldozers skipper Kiccha Sudeep thanking the Karnataka State Cricket Association for making Mysuru a possibility.
The top 4 teams after a gruelling 14-match group stage are now set for the semis. The Bengal Tigers, who are the defending champions, have topped the points table, with 4 wins and no losses, followed by the Bulldozers, Chennai Rhinos and Punjab De Sher. The top 4 had been decided even before the last match in Surat, but at the time, Punjab De Sher was in third place, a position they lost after their crushing defeat against the Mumbai Heroes.
On March 1, the first semi-final is between the Bengal Tigers and Punjab De Sher. The Tigers had defeated the Shers during the Delhi leg of the tournament, but at mid-point, it had seemed that it could go either way, with Harrdy Sandhu’s team neck-to-neck with the defending champions after the first set of 10 overs each. While the Tigers have been indomitable this season, the Shers have shown they’ve got some fight in them, defeating both the Bulldozers and the Bhojpuri Dabanggs to get to the semis. The Tigers are, no doubt, favourites to win this encounter.
The second semi-final pits the Karnataka Bulldozers against the Chennai Rhinos yet again. The Rhinos had lost to the Bulldozers during the Hyderabad leg of CCL 2025. Darling Krishna’s magnificent knock in the first innings was enough to give the Bulldozers a solid footing, as they trounced the Rhinos. Both teams have won the CCL trophy twice, with the Rhinos’ wins coming against the Bulldozers. The Karnataka side have been runners-up 5 times, unable to deliver the goods when it matters most. It’s been a while since either side has won the trophy, but the Rhinos have not played a final since 2015. The Bulldozers have been in 7 of the last 10 finals and will be the favourites to win, but the Rhinos could just throw in a surprise.
