The Vels Chennai Kings may have a new name, but their rivalry with the Karnataka Bulldozers is well over a decade old. Back in the day when the Chennai team of the Celebrity Cricket League was called the Rhinos, they won the title twice in a row beating the Bulldozers. In the years since, they’ve had many memorable encounters, including last year’s second semi-final, which, interestingly enough, went in favour of the Rhinos, after having been defeated by the Bulldozers in the group matches. They will be at it again on January 31, 2026, in the second semi-final at Coimbatore at 6.30 pm. The match will be live streamed on JioHotstar, available via OTTplay Premium also.

2011 – Group Stage: Karnataka Bulldozers chased down target set by the Chennai Rhinos. Late Dhruv Sharma was the Man of the match. In the final, Rhinos got their revenge and restricted the Bulldozers to 165/9 while chasing 191 for the win.
2012 – Group Stage: Chennai Rhinos won by 4 wickets despite it being a low scoring match; 143 was target. In the final, batting first, Rhinos set a target of 162 and managed to bowl out the Bulldozers for 160, clinching victory by 1 run.
2013 – Group Stage: Bulldozers vs Rhinos match cancelled due to rain. Bulldozers went on to win the tournament, beating the Telugu Warriors
2014 – Group Stage: Match tied with both teams scoring 193. This was before the days of the concept of super over. Vikranth was adjudged Man of the Match. Meanwhile, the Bulldozers won the tournament beating Kerala Strikers.
2015 – Semi-Final: Chasing 159 for the win, Rhinos made 162 and won. Vikranth was the Man of the Match. Rhinos went on to lose to the Telugu Warriors in the final
2016 – Group Stage: Bulldozers won by 83 runs after scoring 211 against the Rhinos. Telugu Warriors won the title beating the Bulldozers
2017 – Rhinos and Bulldozers did not play each other; Telugu Warriors its third championship beating Kerala Strikers
2019 – Chennai did not play; Mumbai Heroes won the tournament
2023 – Group Stage: Bulldozers won batting second in tournament played in Test format with 4 innings. They then lost to eventual champions, Telugu Warriors, in the final
2024 – Group Stage Bulldozers defeated the Rhinos as their third straight win. In the final, Bengal Tigers won beating the Bulldozers
2025 – Group Stage: Bulldozers won convincingly, but Rhinos got their revenge in the semi-final, setting up their first final in 10 years. Rhinos lost to Punjab De Sher eventually.
2026 – Bulldozers and Kings did not play each other in group stage
