In the first leg of group stage matches of Celebrity Cricket League Season 12, 4 of the 8 teams played 2 matches each. Two of them lost both and have lost out on their chance of a shot at the title. One of them, as it happens, is the defending champions Punjab De Sher, while the other is the Mumbai Heroes. 2024 champions Bengal Tigers won both their matches and are currently at the top of the points table.

Here’s a look at the points standing of CCL 2026 after week 1

TEAM MATCHES WON LOST POINTS NET RUN RATE
Bengal Tigers 2 2 0 4 0.30640
Bhojpuri Dabanggs 1 1 0 2 2.05000
Karnataka Bulldozers 1 1 0 2 1.55000
Kerala Strikers 1 1 0 2 0.39870
Telugu Warriors 2 1 1 2 0.27500
Vels Chennai Kings 1 0 1 0 0
Mumbai Heroes 2 0 2 0 0.51720
Punjab De Sher 2 0 2 0 -2.07500

As the teams head into the second and final leg of group matches, the Bhojpuri Dabanggs, Karnataka Bulldozers, and Kerala Strikers can breathe easy, knowing that they still have 2 matches each to get a shot at making it to the next stage of the tournament, given that each won their first match. For the Vels Chennai Kings and the Telugu Warriors, though, it’s a different situation.

The Kings were close to clinching their first victory, but then squandered their advantage and were forced into a super over by the Bengal Tigers, which they failed to convert. Vikranth and boys will have to win both of their next two matches and hope and pray that their points standing and net run rate matters in the end.

As for the Warriors, the 4-time CCL Champions, a win in their final group match is imperative, since they lost against the Bhojpuri Dabanggs, but then bounced back to defeat Punjab De Sher and knock them out of the tournament. Akhil Akkineni will have to produce another cracker of an innings to give his team a fighting chance.

The Dabanggs and the Strikers are the only two teams in the league to have never won the tournament and both have come tantalisingly close in the past. Manoj Tiwari’s and Unni Mukundan’s teams look super-charged, as also Jisshu Sengupta’s Tigers. Will there be a new champion in the house this time? Or will one of the erstwhile winners take the trophy home again? Well, we will know on February 1, 2026.
