After two days of scintillating cricket action in Hyderabad, the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) now heads to Cuttack for the final leg of Week 2 on February 16. Four teams – Bengal Tigers, Punjab De Sher, Mumbai Heroes and the Bhojpuri Dabanggs – will be in Cuttack. Except Punjab De Sher, the other 6 teams will be 3 matches down in the group stage. So, next weekend, when CCL returns in Surat, Harrdy Sandhu’s team will play 2, while the rest of the teams have 1 each to complete their quota.
After the Hyderabad leg of the tournament, the Karnataka Bulldozers were at the top of the points table, after 3 very resounding victories against the Telugu Warriors, Chennai Rhinos and the Mumbai Heroes. Defending champions Bengal Tigers were close behind with 2 victories from 2 matches. All the matches are being live streamed on JioHotstar.
The Mumbai Heroes and Bhojpuri Dabanggs flew in from Hyderabad and joined the Bengal Tigers and Punjab De Sher, who were not part of that leg of the tournament. The first match of February 16 has the Bhojpuri Dabanggs against Punjab De Sher. Harrdy Sandhu-led Punjab De Sher had shown in their first match that they can put on quite a fight and given that Manoj Tiwari’s team just got a drubbing at the hands of the Telugu Warriors, this will be an interesting encounter. Bhojpuri Dabanggs vs Punjab De Sher is at 2 pm on February 16.
The next match, slotted at 6.30 pm (and more likely to begin closer to 7.30 pm), is between the Mumbai Heroes and defending champions Bengal Tigers. The Heroes have lost both their matches so far, while the Tigers won two. The 2024 winners will, obviously look at notching up one more and joining the Karnataka Bulldozers with one foot firmly in for a semi-final spot. For the Heroes, it is about salvaging pride and ensuring they do not end at the bottom of the table.
Points table after Match 8 of CCL 2025
Teams | Matches played | Wins | Losses | Points |
Karnataka Bulldozers | 3 | 3 | 0 | 6 |
Bengal Tigers | 2 | 2 | 0 | 4 |
Telugu Warriors | 3 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
Bhojpuri Dabanggs | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
Chennai Rhinos | 3 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
Mumbai Heroes | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 |
Punjab De Sher | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
In the last week of group stage matches on February 22 and 23, all 7 teams will be in Surat. Unlike 2024, when the top 4 teams then headed into play-offs, this time around, they will head into the semis on March 1 and the winners to the final on March 2. The semis and final will be held in Coimbatore.
