If the honor and significance of Oscars in films is equivalent to the MET Gala in fashion, then the Golden Globe goes to the CFDA Fashion Awards. The Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards 2023 was held on November 6 at the American Museum of Natural History.
The event was a sleek and glamorous one, a celebration of fashion and its devotees who have left an indelible mark. The winners and nominees were dressed their best, but this did not hinder the other guests from showing off their impeccable sartorial sense.
Presented by Amazon Fashion, the prestigious Awards show was primarily hosted by Anne Hathaway. This year saw tennis pro Serena Williams win the Fashion Icon award, all the while slaying in her dreamy, sequined black dress. Designed by CFDA Chairman, designer Thom Browne, the gown featured a sweetheart neck, with a body-hugging silhouette and extravagant puffed sleeves.
American rapper Saweetie decided to standout by choosing a custom straw gown by CULT GAIA. Featuring a front slit and cutouts on the side, the strapless gown oozed nature-friendly oomph. Saweetie further customized her look with diamond jewelry and minimal makeup.
Amelia Hamlin chose to be fun and risqué at the CFDA Awards 2023 by opting for an Alaia Spring 2024-Ready to Wear gown. The dress was a baby blue, sheer gown, that was translucent and floor-length. It also featured a turtleneck and long sleeves with baby blue fur on the forearms.
Notable awardees of the CFDA 2023 ceremony also included American Accessory Designer of the Year winners Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of The Row, Shop with Google American Emerging Designer of the Year winner Rachel Scott of Diotima, Board of Director’s Tribute was accepted graciously by Vera Wang, while Gwyneth Paltrow took home the Innovation Award presented by Amazon Fashion.
