With Ajagajantharam and Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil, director Tinu Pappachan proved that he’s a force to reckon with. Even though his latest movie Chaaver, which has Kunchacko Boban in the lead, didn’t quite hit the highs as his previous two ventures, Tinu’s making is still one of the highlights of the political drama-thriller.
And it’s not just the Malayalam audience that have taken notice of Tinu’s talent. The filmmaker has been receiving calls from celebs across industries for possible collaborations and Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda is among those who had approached Tinu.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Tinu revealed if there was any truth in the rumours that the makers of Pushpa, Mythri Movie Makers, are planning a movie with him at the helm and Vijay as its protagonist.
Tinu Pappachan to work with Vijay Deverakonda?
“There’s no truth in that,” he tells us. “However, Vijay Deverakonda had expressed interest to work with me, and that’s why I had gone to meet him. We want to work together, but with cinema, there has to be a story that I like and should appeal to him as well. We never know when that will happen, but he was genuinely interested in collaborating in the future.”
Incidentally, Tinu recently also had a discussion with Mohanlal, for a “dream project” . The filmmaker had worked as the chief associate director in Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban recently, and had time to bounce off a few ideas with the Malayalam superstar.

“We had a discussion, but nothing was finalised,” he says. “When you are planning a film with an iconic actor like Lal sir, it’s not easy to convince him. He is someone who has watched a wide variety of films and has also acted in them. So, it will take time and I believe it will eventually happen.”
Meanwhile, Tinu’s latest movie Chaaver, which is scripted by Joy Mathew and also has Arjun Ashokan and Antony Varghese, is still running in theatres. The movie’s OTT rights were bagged by Sony LIV.
