Toby fame Chaithra Achar is no stranger to Tamil audiences, on account of the dubbed version of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B (SSE Side B) in 2023, which had a decent reception there. Her role in SSE also got her two Tamil originals, one of which, 3BHK, with Siddharth, has a release date, that she’s eagerly counting down to. The film, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, will be in theatres on July 4, 2025.

Chaithra Achar: 3BHK is a feel-good family drama that everyone will relate to

“3BHK is a family drama that revolves around the dreams and aspirations of a family about owning a home. It’s a feel-good family-oriented drama that everybody, across socio-economic strata, can relate to. I like how it has shaped up beautifully, with veteran actors like Sarathkumar, Devyani, as well as good actors like Siddarth and Meetha Raghunath. All of us have come together and brought this story to life about whether or not they are able to fulfil this dream,” says Chaithra.

The Blink actress adds that 3BHK is not about twists and turns, but rather that everyone will connect to pretty much everything that unfolds onscreen. “The collective feeling will be that this happens in our homes too,” says Chaithra, who is paired with Siddharth in the film. This is her first straight Tamil film, a language that she knew very little of, but the cast and crew never let her worry about that and were more than supportive.

“The inputs that I got from this talented bunch has been immensely helpful. Siddharth was an absolute treat to work with, as were everyone else too. It was such a great team to begin my journey in Tamil cinema; I met so many nice people and there’s so much positivity that I have come back with,” says Chaithra, adding that the offer to be a part of 3BHK came straight after SSE Side B.

But 3BHK is not the only Tamil film she’s got ready for release. “My film with Sasikumar sir, My Lord, is also done and is in post-production now. It should be in theatres shortly after 3BHK. In the time that I was shooting for both these films, I was so busy and living out of a suitcase that my routine went for a toss. I wasn’t working out or sticking to my diet; I’ve never before been so indisciplined, but I don’t want to complain, because this is the kind of problem I always want to have,” she says.

Back home in Kannada, Taledanda actress Chaithra has a couple of interesting projects, and while she is excited about them, like most others, she is also observing the trend in the industry cautiously, what with hardly any film catching the fancy of audiences. “I am not the big commercial film kind of actor, so within the limitations of the kind of movies I’d do, I am striving to work on experimental stories and characters, and take a chance that audiences will also see the merit that I saw in these scripts,” she adds.
