It looks like 2022 will be a good year for fans of Kannada cinema, what with all A-list stars having releases. It began with the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s James, which is his last commercial film and took one of the Kannada film industry’s best openings, and is set to continue with Rocking Star Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 in April. Sometime in May or June Kiccha Sudeep will present his much-awaited fantasy action-drama Vikrant Rona. Upendra (Home Minister), Shivarajkumar (Bairagee) and Rakshit Shetty (777 Charlie) will also be in theatres in the next few months.
And now we hear that Challenging Star Darshan will also join the 2022 release list with his next Kranti. The film, directed by composer-filmmaker V Harikrishna, is still in production, but according to the latest buzz, Kranti, which was launched on Vijayadasami last year, is about 80% done, with the makers looking at completing principal photography in a couple of months and then proceeding into post-production.
Kranti is Darshan’s 55th film and reunites him with the team of his earlier Yajamana, including director Harikrishna and producers Shylaja Nag and B Suresha, under their Media House Studio banner. The film, which deals with the privatisation of education and implies a potential revolution in the academic system, pairs Darshan with Rachita Ram and has Crazy Star V Ravichandran in a pivotal role. Kranti will be Darshan’s first pan-India release, with the makers looking at bringing it in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi.
Once done with Kranti, Darshan is set to start work on his next with Roberrt maker Tharun Sudhir, tentatively called D56.
