Director P Vasu recently wrapped up the shooting of Chandramukhi 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to his 2005 blockbuster. Actor Radikaa Sarathkumar, who plays a key role in the film, expressed her excitement about the completion of the production.
"It’s a wrap #chandramukhi2 @LycaProductions wht a joy working with a director so thorough with his craft and vision #pvasu and thank you to this gem @offl_Lawrence who is the first hero who gifted me a gold ring and expensive watch, genuine affection," she tweeted.
A photo has surfaced online showing Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence, the lead pair of the upcoming movie, celebrating by cutting a cake. In the picture, Kangana and Lawrence are still in their makeup and costumes, revealing their royal looks from the film.
It appears that Chandramukhi 2, like its predecessor, will include a period portion that delves into the events preceding Chandramukhi being set ablaze by Vettaiyan Raja. The prequel featured Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, while the upcoming film will have Lawrence essaying as the leading man. Notably, Vadivelu, who was part of the first film, has played a pivotal role in the sequel.
Kangana made her Tamil debut in the 2008 action movie Dhaam Dhoom. After finding success in Bollywood, she took a hiatus from Tamil cinema for over a decade. She returned to Tamil films in 2021 with the political drama Thalaivii, where she portrayed the role of the late former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Although her performance was well-received by the audience, the film didn't fare well at the box office.
It remains uncertain whether Chandramukhi 2 is a remake of Vasu's 2010 supernatural drama Aptharakshaka. The film, starring the late movie icon Vishnuvardhan, served as the sequel to Apthamitra, which inspired the Tamil remake Chandramukhi.
Fans can anticipate the release of Chandramukhi 2 in theatres later this year.
