Chandreyee Ghosh’s portrayal of Beauty – a prostitute from a Sealdah brothel – in Indranil Roychowdhury’s Mayar Jonjal earned her a lot of praise from viewers and critics alike. The film was released on February 24 and it also features Ritwick Chakraborty, Shohel Mondol, Bratya Basu, Aupee Karim, Paran Bandyopadhyay, and others. In the film, Chandreyee has a complicated love affair with Satya – a thief, played by Bangladeshi actor Shohel.
Talking about the film, Chandreyee said that when she talked with the director, Mayar Jonjal was supposed to be a short film. However, it was after almost a year, Indranil briefed her about the feature film. She admitted that she was drawn to the character from the beginning. “I was drawn to the character from day one. There are dramatic moments, conflicts, emotional compromises, and whatnot! Beauty has everything. It was a challenging character for sure,” she said.
Chandreyee found a ‘teacher’ in Indranil. “Kobi (Indranil, director) is an outstanding mastermoshai (teacher). You will feel that he is strict. But in reality, he will bring out the best in you in his strict way. One more thing about him is that he has an intense level of shock absorption capacity. There can be many crises on the floor and yet when you look at him he would give you a reassuring glance and take the right shot. This is very calming for actors. Director’s energy is always very important on the floors. Kobi has the perfect way to deal with imperfections. He is a sorted, calm, and peaceful leader,” she said.
Chandreyee also shared her experience with the team. “The team was amazing. They have an unmatchable wavelength. Their passion is raw,” she added.
