Actor Chandu Gowda of Lakshmi Baramma fame is one of the villains in Challenging Star Darshan’s upcoming film Devil. Chandu has been barred from disclosing plot or character-related information by director Prakash Veer (Rishi, Milana, Vamshi, Gokula, Siddhartha), who has made Tarak with Darshan earlier. But the actor, who had a minor role in Darshan’s Roberrt, is supremely excited about the film and his role in it.
“It’s a fantastic role, which is to be expected, because the story itself is quite out-of-the-box. I was surprised by the story during the narrative. In fact, I was telling friends recently that Darshan sir is already a huge superstar, and a film like this will not change that. But for someone like me, it is definitely a game-changer. I am very confident that Devil will be a turning point in my career – a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of life-changing movie,” said Chandu.
The actor, who has been a part of the film’s schedules everywhere except in Mysuru, is not entirely sure about the progress of the film so far, but reckons around 60-70% has been completed. Elaborating on the film, Chandu said that it’s a once-in-a-lifetime movie, and likened it to, say, the importance that Bangarada Manushya has in Dr Rajkumar’s filmography. “All of Dr Rajkumar’s films are great, but even then, there are a few that make one go ‘wow’. Devil is one such film,” he stated.
What’s the experience been like for Chandu to work with Darshan? “He’s most supportive of fellow artistes. After Appu sir (Puneeth Rajkumar), I think Darshan sir is the most supportive and down-to-earth star I have met. He’s not like the image that’s seen in the public domain,” asserts Chandu.

Darshan was in the midst of shooting for Devil and aiming for a December 2024 release when he was arrested in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. Since being released on bail, the actor took time off to attend to his back issues, before returning to the set of Devil.
