Filmmaker Adhvaith Nayar marks his debut directorial venture with the latest Malayalam film Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies, which released in theatres on January 22, 2026. Before Chatha Pacha, the young director had started off as an assistant director, assisting ace filmmakers such as Jeethu Joseph, Geetu Mohandas and Rajeev Ravi. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Adhvaith Nayar explains why Jeethu Joseph advises his team not to assist more than two films.
What Chatha Pacha director said about Jeethu Joseph’s advice
Chatha Pacha director Adhvaith Nayar had assisted director Jeethu Joseph on his 2022 film 12th Man, which starred Mohanlal in the lead role.
“Jeethu sir always tells his direction team - don't assist more than two films,” Adhvaith said during the interview. When he was asked why the senior filmmaker said so, Adhvaith said that he did not explain further.
“I think what Jeethu sir meant was when you are working as an assistant director on set, I don't think we have that much space to work on the creative side of it. You're just handling things. It becomes more of a managerial job,” he remarked.
Adhvaith further pointed out he, as a filmmaker, got to learn much more as an assistant director when he was in post-production, citing examples of Geetu Mohandas’ movie Moothon which had a very long post-production period.
On the other hand, Jeethu Joseph's next film is Valathu Vasathe Kallan, releasing a week after Chatha Pacha on January 30. But the director's most-awaited project is Drishyam 3 with Mohanlal.
