Director Sidharth Bharathan had previously admitted to us that his erotic thriller Chathuram, which had hit theatres last year in November, was planned as a way to escape the depression that the pandemic and ensuing delays for his projects had brought upon him. The movie, which has Swasika Vijay, Roshan Mathew and Alencier Ley Lopez in the lead, is finally gearing up for its OTT release.
Apart from the trio, Chathuram, which was shot after the lockdown, also has Santhy Balachandran, Gilu Joseph, Leona Lishoy, Geethi Sangeetha, Jaffer Idukki and Nishanth Sagar as part of the cast.
What is the story of Chathuram?
The film, which is scripted by Sidharth and Vinoy Thomas, revolves around Selena (Swasika), who has to endure a relationship with her abusive but wealthy husband Eldho (Alencier) till an accident renders him bedridden. To take care of him, Selena hires a home nurse, Balathazar (Roshan). Over time, this also leads to a ‘forbidden’ relationship between the duo, especially when they have to plot the death of Eldho. This also leads to huge ramifications for Balathazar, who harbours dreams of going abroad.
Though the film had received a lukewarm response after its theatrical release, Sidharth, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, said that a lot of people had asked him about the film’s OTT release. “We had a five-week run in theatres and that’s something we never expected,” said the director, adding that he had decided to do the movie to end the cycle of depression after his latest release Djinn, starring Soubin Shahir, was delayed due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
When and where to watch Chathuram?
The film’s OTT rights have been bought by Saina Play. The Malayalam platform recently shared on their social media pages that the erotic thriller will begin streaming soon. An exact release date is yet to be announced.
