About Chhaava, CBFC Cuts, and Ratings

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Pictures, Chhaava is based on the life of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ruled from 1681 to 1689. The film is mounted on a grand scale and stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj’s stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The latest posters have heightened anticipation for the trailer, which is set to release on January 22, 2025.

Chhaava has been certified U/A 16+ by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but the film required certain modifications. The dialogue "Mughal sultanat ka zehar" (The poison of the Mughal Sultanate) was changed to "Uss samay, kayi shaasak aur sultanat khud ko zinda rakhne ki koshish kar rahe the." (At that time, many rulers and sultanates were trying to survive). Another dialogue, "Khoon toh aakhir Mughalon ka hi hai" (After all, the blood is that of the Mughals), was altered to "Khoon toh hai Aurang ka hi." (After all, the blood is Aurangzeb's).

Additionally, the words "haramzaadon" and "haramzaada" were toned down, and "Aameen" was replaced with "Jai Bhavani." The CBFC also requested the removal of a sequence portraying Maratha warriors wearing sarees and modifications to certain dialogues. For instance, "14 saal" was changed to "16 saal," "24 saal ka ladka" replaced "22 saal ka ladka," and "kayi saal" was used instead of "9 saal."

Chhaava is set to hit the big screens on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates from the world of streaming and films.
