Chhal Kapat - The Deception is a crime thriller series on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium) that revolves around the death case of Shalu, who was attending one of her childhood friends' weddings, along with two other friends. Shalu was found dead, floating over a pool after the engagement party of Alisha and Jugal. Following this, SP Devika Rathore reached the venue and began her investigation. What seemed like a suicide soon turned into a murder amid the investigation. But who murdered Shalu? Let's find out!

Chhal Kapat - The Deception lives and breathes Shriya Pilgaonkar's SP Devika's investigation of Shalu's murder right from the beginning. Alisha is the bride-to-be, and she has three friends, Shalu, Ira, and Mehek. While Ira and Mehek are married, Shalu is single and a strong social media influencer with a lot of followers. Meanwhile, it is important to mention that Mehek's husband is the son of an influential minister. 

At Alisha's wedding, everyone was invited. It seems that Shalu, who is a special good friend of Alisha, does not have a smooth friendship with Ira and Mehek, and frequently, they keep quarrelling about various trivial things.

But the wedding house's environment turns into a dark one overnight after the death of Shalu. Following this, Mehek's husband, Vikram, informs SP Devika, and she begins her investigation. Meanwhile, there are two more characters, Alisha's ex-boyfriend, Rohan, and Shalu's assistant, Sapan. Amid the investigation, Devika comes to know that Rohan messaged Shalu to get the address of the wedding venue so that he can come and stop the wedding, as he still loves Alisha. 

After a war of words, Shalu gave him the address, and Rohan reached, following which the scenario changed, and the relationship between Alisha and her would-be husband, Jugal, starts falling apart.

Shocking revelations amid the investigation

While investigating the case, Devika learns from the lab test that Shalu had fought with a female before slipping into the pool, and she also learns that Shalu was 2-and-a-half months pregnant. This was unknown to Ira, Alisha, and others. But Mehek knows, and she hides it from Devika. From the beginning, Mehek seems off, and Devika notices a scar on her neck, which proves that she has a broken relationship with her husband, a point to be noted here.  

Another shocking revelation is that the father of Shalu's unborn child is Mehek's husband, Vikram. When Devika learns that, she runs to arrest him, but he has already left the place with his wife, Mehek. However, he was arrested mid-way and was brought to the police station. 

The Final Call

Both Mehek and Vikram are interrogated by Devika. During the interrogation, Mehek reveals that she knew Shalu was pregnant and Vikram was the father, as she was unable to give him a child, and also informs Devika that Vikram tortures her at home. Out of jealousy, Mehek and Shalu used to have fights with each other, and Mehek's patience broke all limits after the engagement party.

She gives Shalu drugs mixed with a dessert and pushes her to the pool, knowing that Shalu does not know how to swim. The whole scene was witnessed by Vikram from behind. To hide the truth, Vikram promises Mehek that he will turn the incident into a suicide by using his power. But the truth comes out at the end.

The ending of Chhal Kapat - The Deception seems abrupt and poorly executed. However, the plot is interesting and keeps you hooked to the end.
