Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been a popular protagonist in Indian films for decades. His son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, however, is now the focus of films. Vicky Kaushal has been cast as the Maratha king in the upcoming film Chhava, which director Laxman Utekar reportedly got to work on last week. Vicky has the build and demeanour for the role. Interestingly, Raje Sambhaji, the following film by Marathi director Digpal Lanjekar, also centres on the historical character.

Laxman seems unconcerned that his films have similar plots. He told Midday that he has nothing to worry about since the examples of Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj are everlasting. Movies like this can teach young people not just about bravery but also about other important life skills, such as planning ahead and making the most of limited resources.

While Shivaji Sawant's book Chhava serves as inspiration for Lanjekar's Bhushan Patil-led drama, the director claims that other works served as inspiration as well. But he stresses that the story is centred on a pivotal moment in the life of the warrior king. incredible brave man, that Sambhaji Maharaj. One of his heroic acts will form the basis for this film, rather than his entire life.

Earlier, while talking about the film, Laxman told Pinkvilla that they would begin filming in September. They started pre-production two months ago and are well into it. Training continues for Vicky as he strives to gain weight and surpass 100 kg. The actor is learning how to ride horses and use swords. So, all the training is happening now. The remaining cast members are being cast, and locations are being scouted.

The film will mark Vicky and Laxman's second outing after their recent release, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. The film, which hit the big screens earlier this month, has crossed the Rs. 50 crore mark at the box office. Sara Ali Khan is the female lead opposite Vicky in the romantic drama, which marks their first film together.
