Chiyaan Vikram's latest film Cobra has become a victim to piracy. The spy thriller, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, has been leaked online and is already available for download in a few pirated websites. This clearly is expected to impact the box office collection, which has already opened to mixed reviews from the critics and audience. Though Vikram's performance in the film has been lauded by everyone, the script is said to be lacklustre.
The Cobra team had already spent a huge amount on the production cost and had approached the Madras High Court to block any illegal piracy sites from telecasting the film. The High Court had ordered 29 telecom and internet service provider companies to block and restrain 1,788 websites from telecasting the pirated version of Cobra.
Cobra revolves around a brilliant mathematician played by Vikram. His character Mathi uses the alias of Cobra to perform some high-profile crimes. The film marks the debut of cricketer Irfan Pathan who plays an Interpol agent in the film. The film has an ensemble star cast comprising Srinidhi Shetty, Miya George, Mirnalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindharajan and Roshan Mathew to name a few. Vikram is seen in 8 different avatars in the film and the team had flown in a team from Mumbai to work on the prosthetics. The team recently released a making video of Vikram's looks in the film.
Music for Cobra is by AR Rahman and the album comprises the songs - Adheera, Uyir Uruguthey and Thumbi Thullal. While the cinematography is by Harish Kannan, editing is by Bhuvan Srinivasan. The film has been produced by Seven Screen Studio and distributed by Red Giant Movies. This was Vikram's first theatrical release in three years after Kadaram Kondan (2019). The film marks the first collaboration between Ajay Gnanamuthu and Vikram.
