Chiyaan Vikram's much-awaited Cobra is all set to hit screens on August 11. The film, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, has Vikram and Srinidhi Shetty in the lead and marks the acting debut of former cricketer Irfan Pathan. Vikram is said to be playing a brilliant mathematician, who uses numbers to solve crimes, a character that he has not been seen in before. Irfan Pathan, on the other hand, is said to be playing an Interpol officer. The film marks the Tamil debut of Srinidhi Shetty, though the Tamil dubbed version of K.G.F: Chapter 2 has already hit screens. Cobra has the legendary Malayalam actor Mamu Koya making his debut in the Tamil film industry as well.
The shoot for Cobra was wrapped up earlier in February. The film's director had then shared on social media, "He posted, "IT鈥橲 A WRAP!! Close to 3 years of filming comes to an end!! My sincere thanks to #ChiyaanVikram sir and my entire team who trusted me, sailed through all the struggles and difficult times with me and believed in the vision of #Cobra !! Forever indebted to each one of u! (sic)."
The film has an ensemble cast including KS Ravikumar, Babu Antony, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Kaniha, Miya George, Mrinalini Ravi, Roshan Mathew, Sarjano Khalid, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Poovaiyar and Mohammad Ali Baig. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. While cinematography is by Harish Kannan, editing is by Bhuvan Srinivasan. The news of the much-delayed release, must come as a huge relief for Vikram fans, who are awaiting a theatrical release of the actor. His last film Mahaan had released directly on OTT.
