The shoot for Thangalaan began recently with a look test. The film is set in the pre-independence era in the Kolar Gold Field and is said to be revolve around the discrimination meted out against a marginalised community there.
Ranjith had earlier stated the film is an attempt to earn the respect of a community that has been yearning for the same for ages. Ranjith had also revealed that Vikram will have a never-before-seen avatar. With the glimpse of Malavika Mohanan and Parvathy, the leading ladies have been officially announced.
Chiyaan61 is being made on a grand budget and is bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja. The film is said to be a pan-India project, which is likely to be released in multiple languages.
