A broke woman, a literal death-dealing video game and a humongous cash prize - these are the elements that set the stage for Choose or Die, a horror thriller guaranteed to take viewers on a roller coaster ride of emotions. The trailer for the same was unveiled recently.
Kayla is a young woman who is going through a bit of a rough patch, after being fired and finding herself on the brink of being evicted out of her home. Her life takes a turn when she finds a retro video game from the ’80s named Curser, which offers a lucrative grand prize of $125,000. But as she starts to play the game, Kayla realises that it can affect reality as well, and she is forced to make some difficult choices that cause destructive harm to those around her. As she is pulled deeper into the sick game, her choices are all that stand between her and a torturous end.
Check out the trailer below:
Iola Evans stars as Kayla in the film, which also features Sex Education star Asa Butterfield, along with Eddie Marsan and Robert Englund in pivotal roles. The trailer seems to hint at a film that borrows from classic thriller and horror works such as the Saw franchise and Black Mirror. While the survival horror aspects mirror those in Saw, the elements of virtual reality blurring the lines of actual reality remind one of Black Mirror.
The upcoming British horror thriller is helmed by Toby Meakins, marking the filmmaker’s directorial debut. Simon Allen has written the film’s screenplay.
Choose or Die will be available to stream on Netflix from April 15, 2022.
