Wish is Disney’s 100th anniversary film that celebrates an entire century spent by the company creating and commemorating cinematic art, mainly animation films. Knowing they were in for a mammoth task with high expectations, directors Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn share with Deadline how they thoroughly studied every Disney film ever made to compare the different styles and color palettes side by side.

This resulted in them observing that many characters wish upon star, but there is hardly any just execution of the act. So, to honour the studio’s legacy, the directorial duo decided to make the film based on it. When inquired about the challenges they faced while making the look they got candid about the hits and misses.

Fawn admitted that acheiving the look of Star was a big challenge as it was their wish to “honour the past while combining the technology of the future.” She explained that though the procedure had not been easy, everyone on their team brought their respective expert opinions and fresh solutions to the table that creatively resolved the problems that arose time and again.

Chris shared his personal challenge in the film, which were creating the wish bubbles. “What is in those wish bubbles, how they look, and all the different looks that they take on throughout the film was really difficult,” he disclosed. Apparently, it had not even occured to anybody beforehand that it would be that challenging.

In a spirit of honest admission, Chris said, “Luckily, it looks kind of effortless on screen, but it was extremely difficult to get that look [of the wish bubbles].” He acknowledged with gratitude how hard everybody, especially the entire effects team had worked to make Wish, by making Fawn announce the superhero title they had given the team, “The Bubble Task Force.”
