Christy trailer gives us a glimpse into what seems like a forbidden love story.
The trailer of the upcoming Malayalam movie Christy was launched on Friday. Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tovino Thomas and Katrina Kaif came together to unveil the trailer of the film, which features Mathew Thomas and Malavika Mohanan.
The trailer gives us a glimpse into what seems like a forbidden love story. Mathew's Roy, who plays a high-school student, falls in love with his math tutor Christy, played by Malavika. Director Alvin Henry seems to have given a grand romantic treatment to this teenage love story. The first time Roy sees Christy reminds us of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. Like Simbu's Karthik in the Tamil film, Roy is also swept up by an overwhelming emotion when he sees Christy enter the compound gate. Is it infatuation or true love? It seems to be the main question that drives the plot.
The trailer shows us the moment when Roy confesses his love for Christy. And it seems like Christy is ambivalent as to how she feels about Roy. And the duo seem to enjoy each other company and it is safe to assume that their fondness for each other also becomes the town's main gossip.
Christy is not the first Malayalam film dealing with such a controversial theme. Acclaimed filmmaker Bharathan's Rathinirvedam (1978), which was written by Padmarajan, was also based on a similar premise. Is Christy indebted to Rathinirvedam? We have to wait and watch.
Judging from the trailer, it seems Christy is set to give Malavika her long-awaited space to showcase her acting skills. It remains to be seen whether this movie would redefine Malavika's onscreen image. She was last seen in Dhanush-starrer Maaran and before that Vijay-starrer Master. She is now busy shooting for director PA Ranjith's period drama Thangalaan, which stars Vikram in the lead.
Christy is due in cinemas on February 17.
