The mention of crime-based TV shows is incomplete without the mention of CID. The beauty of the show has always been in the dialogues and how it has been massy, loud and subtle. However, with this show taking over the digital world, the makers also decided on newer challenges, including killing ACP Pradhyuman, played by Shivaji Satam. More recently, they decided to shoot a silent episode. Dayanand Shetty, who breaks doors as Daya and Aditya Srivastava, who plays Abhijeet on the show, opened up on the challenges they faced while shooting for the Sunday special episode. Here's everything they said...
CID, that had been airing since 1998, did not have a single silent episode in 27 years of it being on TV. The makers have brought that out too and it is bound to be special since the episode would demand all of your attention on the screen and with no words spoken, every move would be observed more carefully. Perhaps we might see more shows, including Crime Patrol, take on the concept soon?
Dayanand Shetty, who plays the character of Daya in CID, is usually known for his habit of breaking doors when a criminal refuses to co-operate with the investigation. At such a time, the silent episode becomes extra challenging. "As an actor, it pushed me out of my comfort zone, and as someone who's been part of CID's journey from the beginning, I can say this episode carries an emotional weight that will hit home for our long-time fans," the actor told IANS. He spoke about how the focus was on the chemistry that the team shared on and off-screen over the years, and the episode would uncover something much more than the case, for it would feel more personal.
Aditya Srivastava's character Abhijeet, who is anyway more about facial expressions, welcomed the move. "As an actor, I've always believed that the true power of storytelling lies in the ability to evoke emotion without relying on words," he said, while also acknowledging that the episode challenges the notion to its very limit. The actor hints that the episode would rather be a thriller than just a human story.
