Amazon's ambitious spyverse Citadel appears to be nearing its conclusion. Speculation had been circulating for weeks, but on April 16, Amazon officially acknowledged the end of its Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana Italian offshoots, respectively. Both the series have only run for a single season.
As an additional piece of news, Amazon has revealed that 2026 will mark the release of season two of the US mothership series, which stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden. Mid Day has recently heard, however, that the second season of Citadel may potentially serve as the series' last chapter. Supposedly, there will be no further spin-offs in Japan, Mexico, or Spain.
The source informed the tabloid that the plan was to release the Italian, Indian, and Mexican versions of Citadel after the first season of the US version. If the plot permitted, the second season of the US series was to air between these versions; otherwise, it would serve as a finale following the spin-offs in Japan and Spain. However, the Mexican version is no longer being considered. It is unclear what will happen to the branches that originated in Spain and Japan.
One of Amazon's most costly and complex projects, Citadel was conceived as a multi-country franchise by the Russo Brothers. The goal of the interwoven worldwide series was to broaden the Citadel canon by means of parallel stories taking place on other continents.
According to Amazon's official statement, the storylines of the Indian and Italian shows will not be continuing separately but will instead contribute to the overall storyline of the second season. Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana narratives will be interwoven in the forthcoming second season of the mothership series, Citadel, after having successfully travelled to Italy and India.
As per a statement released by Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, Season 2 of Citadel will be their most exhilarating yet, even though the successful overseas chapters will not be continued as separate series.
According to sources close to the matter, the initial concept also featured characters from the now-cancelled Mexican adaptation; nevertheless, Amazon chose not to address more enquiries.
An additional source revealed to the tabloid that Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Indian version was never really cancelled. Season two of the Raj & DK (of Go Goa Gone fame) series was never in the cards. If it had occurred, it would have been long after the US version and all of the spin-offs had been released.
It has been speculated that the second season would be the last bow to the worldwide saga since Priyanka reportedly has a two-season deal for the US version.
Now that Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana have been shelved along with their intended Mexican, Spanish, and Japanese spinoffs, fans are waiting for Amazon to tie up its disparate spyverse in the 2026 series finale.
