Eminent Indian classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan is critically ill. He has been admitted to a hospital for several days. The singer has been suffering from prostate cancer for the past few years. He was responding well to the treatment. Recently he had a cerebral attack and his condition deteriorated. Rashid Khan, 55, is now admitted to a private hospital in South Kolkata. 

OTTPlay tried to contact the singer’s family but no one responded to the call. Sources from the hospital and the singer's close ones said that he is critical. Cancer and brain stroke are related. He is now in the ITU, treated by the neurologists. He is also being observed by doctors from medicine and oncology. His condition did not deteriorate, but it is still critical. He has been admitted to the hospital for nearly a month. His family members intended to keep Ustad’s health matter private.   

Rashid was born in Budaun, UP. He is an artist of the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, founded by Inayat Hussain Khan. Rashid was mentored by another legendary artist of the school, Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan, the grandfather of Rashid. His maternal uncle Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan from Gwalior Gharana was his other mentor. Rashid Khan sang many popular songs in Tollywood and Bollywood movies. He immortalised the son, Aaoge Jab Tum, from the film Jab We Met. 

In 2006, Ustad Rashid Khan was awarded the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He was awarded India’s third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, in 2022 by the Indian Government in the field of Art.
