Often in the news either for his stand-up acts or cancelled shows, comedian Munawar Faruqui was recently honoured with the ‘Comedian in Spotlight’ title at the OTTplay Changemakers Awards 2023 in Mumbai. While he said that it felt really good to receive this award, the winner of the first season of Kangana Ranaut’s reality competition television series Lock Upp also revealed plans about his upcoming music venture.
Speaking about the major change-making moment in his life, the comedian said, “I think every day we learn something new that gives us the feeling that we need to change something in us to make ourselves better. Today is also a great moment in my life to be invited at an event like this and be honoured for what I do. So, this makes me very happy. That said, the biggest milestone or ‘changing moment’ in my life is yet to come, I think.”
So, who are you dedicating this award to? “I want to dedicate this award only to the audience, because they have made me the person I am today,” he said. On social media, there are people who love you and appreciate your work and then there are trollers too. How would you respond to them? “It’s not just about social media. There are people in your house and in the neighbourhood who love and hate you. This is human nature, be it on the internet or in the mohalla. So, better let them be. Usse koi farak nahi padhta hai.”
Speaking about his future projects, Munawar said, “A music project is in the pipeline. Can’t reveal much now, but there’ll be something new coming up by the end of April.”
