Composer AR Rahman tweets in praise of Natyam actress Sandhya Raju's reinterpretation of Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Woman

Reinterpretation of great stories, poems or any work of art is the need of the hour. Time and again, history has proved that we're all more similar than we think, not much about humanity has changed over time and quality literature that grasps this thought has always remained relevant. We're talking about this in reference to writer, poet Maya Angelou's popular Phenonomenal Woman, that captures the essence of womanhood and societal prejudices like no other. Written in 1995 originally, the literary work still strikes a chord with every woman.

Noted Kuchipudi danseuse, who made her acting debut with the critically acclaimed film Natyam directed by Revanth Korukonda, has now come up with a classical reinterpretation of Phenomenal Woman in her latest dance video. The dance video is a compelling reimagination of Phenomenal Woman in the Kuchipudi form, where Sandhya Raju and a group of dancers try to dissect this enigma called a 'woman' and the many aspects that contribute to the mystery around her besides her grace and elegance. 

The actress, danseuse is extremely effective in presenting society's double standards pertaining to women and puts forward her thought with a terrific classical touch. Sandhya Raju has dedicated the video to her mother Nirmala Raja on her birthday recently. Aided by her friend, art director Manisha Satvolu, Phenomenal Woman is shot amid the backdrop of the ancient Hyderabadi monument Taramati Baradari. 

The video has earned the applause of many within days of release and the latest fan to her video is none another than AR Rahman himself. The Mozart of Madras had tweeted the link of her dance video earlier this week. Meanwhile, sources confirm that Sandhya Raju is all set to commence work on her second film as a lead. The shoot of the untitled film will commence in April and a leading Telugu production house will be bankrolling the project. More details about it are awaited.
