Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar will team up again for their seventh comedic feature. Fourteen years after Khatta Meetha, the two will collaborate on a horror comedy. A spin-off or sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa is not what this film is going to be, according to Priyadarshan.

Priyadarshan confirms novelty of script

Confirming the news to The Times of India, the filmmaker stated that the film he is doing with Akshay is original; such a concept is novel. Priyadarshan received the script from Ekta Kapoor. On the fringes of fantasy and horror, viewers will find a horror comedy. In fact, he would go so far as to say that Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a comedic psychological thriller, and no previous film has inspired his upcoming film. He confirmed that they will be hitting the floor in October.

Back in 2023, Pinkvilla had reported about the film, wherein a source told the entertainment portal that after listening to the narrative, Akshay knew this was the ideal script for Ekta to collaborate on, and he was already committed to making a film for her. The trio is thrilled about the union and plans to release the film in theatres by the year 2024's end.

Priyadarshan's view on Bhool Bhulaiyaa and its sequel

On the other hand, Priyadarshan explained that he never had a subject for directing Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 when questioned about not directing it. However, the filmmaker expressed elation over the film's level of success, emphasising that making a successful sequel is no simple feat.

Meanwhile, Priyadarshan and Akshay have collaborated on several films, namely Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), De Dana Dan (2009), and Khatta Meetha (2010).

Priyadarshan's foray into documentary making: Ayodhya Temple History

One of Priyadarshan's upcoming projects is a documentary. Talking about the same, he said that this is his first go at making a documentary; he has never done it before. Starting in 1983, it delves into the history of the Ayodhya temple.
