It’s official! The makers of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara-starrer Gold took to their social media pages to announce the worldwide release date of Alphonse Puthren’s much-awaited directorial.
The film's co-producers Magic Frames posted on their Instagram page that the movie will hit theatres on December 1. The funny post went, "We have seen a lot of twists in films but now there are twists while deciding a film's release too." The movie's producer Listin confirmed that the movie release and wrote that he hoped that it won't change again.
The movie, which marks the director’s comeback directorial after seven years since the Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi blockbuster Premam, was initially set to hit theatres in September. However, this was postponed after Alphonse and its producers weren’t satisfied with the final product, which reportedly was over three hours long. In order to make the truncated version more engaging, the team had headed for reshoots, which was completed a month ago.
Apart from Prithviraj and Nayanthara, Gold has a bevy of stars in supporting roles. In fact, it’s one of the movies where even the shortest of roles are played by prominent actors. Lalu Alex, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sharafudheen, Vinay Forrt, Deepti Sati, Shabareesh Varma, Jagadeesh, Baburaj, Saiju Kurup, Roshan Mathew, Shanti Krishna and Ajmal Ameer are some of the actors, who are part of the cast. Alphonse has also promised that the movie will have more cameos. Prithviraj reportedly essays the character of a mobile shop owner named Joshiy while Nayanthara will be playing Sumangali Unnikrishnan in the movie, which is also scripted by Alphonse.
The movie’s OTT, satellite and overseas rights were sold much earlier. Amazon Prime Video had bought the streaming rights for the movie, while Surya TV will broadcast the movie next year. In an earlier interview with us, Ajmal Ameer, who plays a humour-driven role in the film, told us, “Gold is a full-on, fun-packed film filled with interesting characters and situational comedy. It’s a film that people across age groups will be able to enjoy.”
