A few days ago, there was a strong buzz on social media that Kannada cinema’s Queen Bee, who stepped back from making a comeback with a home production is well on course to be on screen soon. The actress, it was said, will be seen in a pivotal role in director Rohit Padaki’s second film for KRG Studios, Uttarakaanda, which has Dhananjaya in the lead.
Turns out, the rumours were true, and Ramya is indeed returning to acting with the film, a gangster flick set in the heartland of north Karnataka. An official announcement of the same is expected today.
Ramya, who was last seen onscreen in 2014, had since been busy with a pursuit of a political career. She was briefly a Member of Parliament from Mandy and then held the post of chief of social media for the Congress Party. While she is still a party sympathizer, Ramya is not active in politics now, which had given rise to speculation that she could be contemplating a return to acting.
In the run-up to announcing her decision to get into films yet again, Ramya had begun making public appearances at movie events and on sets too, visiting her newfound pals in the industry. When she eventually revealed her comeback plans, it was with the launch of her home banner, Apple Box Studios, the debut venture of which is a film directed by Raj B Shetty, with him and Ramya in the lead. Shortly afterwards, though, Ramya decided against the film, Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, as her comeback movie and gave the role to Siri Ravikumar. She is still producing the film, which is currently in production in Ooty.
Uttarakaanda will have its muhurtha today, but the team is likely to go on floors only in January, as Dhananjaya is currently busy with Hoysala, which is also a KRG Studios production.
