Confirmed! Vijay Deverakonda’s #VD12 doesn’t have Rashmika Mandanna, but there’s another reason to be excited

The latest update of Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda and Jersey director Gowtam Tinnanuri’s #VD12 has put a lot of rumours to rest, while also stoking excitement for the movie. One rumour that got a lot of fans excited for the upcoming movie was that it would see rumoured lovebirds Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna together after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.

While it was earlier reported that Sreeleela would play the lead actress in the movie, rumours surfaced last year that Rashmika had replaced the young star. However, the latest announcement by Netflix South, which has been tweeting all of its upcoming South releases as part of the #NetflixPandaga updates, confirm that Sreeleela is indeed part of the project and Rashmika’s casting was just a rumour.

The streaming platform unveiled a new poster of the movie, while also tagging its cast and crew – which includes composer Anirudh Ravichander as well as cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, known for his Malayalam movies Angamaly Diaries and Jallikattu.

The poster also suggests that the upcoming film could be a spy-thriller, which has Vijay playing the role of a police officer. The poster carried a quote from an anonymous spy: “Don’t know where I belong. To tell you whom I betrayed.”

This will mark Gowtam's third Telugu movie after Sumanth’s Malli Raava and the blockbuster Nani-starrer Jersey, which he had also remade in Hindi with Shahid Kapoor.

While the confirmation that Rashmika is not part of the movie would come as a blow to the fans of Vijay and the Animal actress, the duo was recently spotted spending time together in Vietnam. Though they didn’t share photos together, eagle-eyed fans did spot that the pics that two had been posting separately on their Instagram handles were from Vietnam.

There were also rumours that the two were set to get engaged in February. Both Vijay and Rashmika haven’t officially confirmed that they are dating each other, but their co-stars have been less than coy about it, especially Ananya Panday, who had acted with the Arjun Reddy star in Liger, and Ranbir Kapoor, who had co-starred with Rashmika in Animal. Both actors had hinted at their alleged relationship during episodes of Koffee With Karan and Unstoppable with NBK, respectively.
